At Ravens Academy we believe that education should be a rewarding, challenging and memorable experience. We always put each child in the centre of their learning journey and give them the tools to set high goals, to take ownership of their learning and to realise their full potential, achieving their targets.
We believe that our children learn best in context, building up their understanding through making connections between their past knowledge and experiences and new learning. At Ravens Academy we offer a cross-curricular, thematic approach to learning that encompases all areas of the curriculum. This way the children can become leaders of their own learning, developing the creative and innovative skills needed for life in the 21st Century.
Our new “Cornerstones” Curriculum encompasses all of our learning through exciting “Imaginative Learning Projects” each based around an exciting theme. Each Imaginative Learning Project follows a sequence of these four stages of learning:
The Cornerstones curriculum encourages the students to continue their learning outside the classroom, exploring the themes and ideas at home and sharing their thoughts and questions with family members. At Ravens Academy we will use educational visits and specialist guest visitors to compliment our learning at school. We also encourage families to discuss the children’s school work, taking part in further research through books, documentaries or appropriate films. Your class teacher may also send home some creative activity ideas for you to try out with your child.
English is taught every day from Year 1 to Year 6 at Ravens Academy. Our English work is built around reading schemes using a READ sequence, Reading A-Z and Headstart comprehension. We also use Lexia Core as an intervention which is accessible from home. Our phonics is based on Jolly Phonics and is taught in ability groups.
